This program is Designed and structured for the holistic development of students  and open doors of employment in the fields of Machine Design & Robotics such as Soft robots for biomedical applications, wearable and assistive devices, artificial organs, Rehabilitation engineering -devices to assist individuals with disabilities and Design of compact and user-friendly devices etc.

Starting in September / October 2020

Location: Skanray, Mysore

   Training Methodology used for grooming students comprises

   of 35% theory and 65% practical.

Instructional hours – 5 days / week, working @8 hrs / day.

ie: 40 hrs per week. Saturdays for mini projects, Self-study, special classes as per requirement. Avg. 22 days per month, Semester. This is considering Public holidays, festival etc. Separate Calendar shall be released for each semester

  • Microcontrollers & Embedded systems – Integration & programming
  • CAD Lab
  • Engineering Mechanics for Biomedical Engineers
  • Fundamentals of Digital Image Processing / Radiological Equipment /Diagnostic & Therapeutic equipment
  • Medical Robotics - Soft robots for biomedical applications, including soft tools for surgery, diagnosis and drug delivery, wearable and assistive devices, prostheses, artificial organs and tissue-mimicking active simulators for training and biomechanical studies.
  • Rehabilitation engineering - Use of engineering principles to develop technological solutions and devices to assist individuals with disabilities and aid the recovery of physical and cognitive functions lost because of disease or injury.
  • Design of compact and user-friendly device.
  • Design Constraints- Mechanical, DFE, Safety.
  • Case Studies.

3rd & 4th Semester – (2nd year) – Training with Industry attachment.

Healthcare comprises hospitals, medical devices, clinical trials, outsourcing, telemedicine, medical tourism, health insurance and medical equipment.

The healthcare industry is one of the world's largest and fastest-growing industries. Consuming over 10 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) of most developed nations, health care can form an enormous part of a country's economy.

The Health Care industry has been growing at a rapid pace in the past few years. With an annual growth rate of 30%. The Indian Healthcare Industry is estimated at US$22 billion and the Medical device market is estimated at US $ 1.85 billion and growing at 15% per annum. Thus with the rapid pace of growth comes the ever increasing demand for highly skilled and well trained Medical Electronics  Engineering work force.

The medical device industry is poised for steady growth, with global annual sales forecast to rise by over 5 percent a year and reach nearly US$800 billion by 2030.  By 2030 the leading medical device players will be those that play an active role in delivering value by connecting with customers, patients and consumers (end users).

We are in the midst of one of the most challenging times in health care history,  facing the risk of rise of Covid 19 virus, resource constraints. These challenges demand connected health IT solutions that integrate, collect, combine and deliver quality data for actionable insights to help improve patient outcomes, reduce costs and improve access to quality care, prevention and diagnosis, treatment, recovery and home care. The cloud-based platform uses Internet of Things (IoT) technology  to collect and analyse data from multiple devices and could ultimately support hundreds of millions of interconnected patients, devices and sensors.

The Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative is encouraging domestic manufacture of medical devices and helping lower the prices patients pay for products such as stents and implants, which in the past were imported. At the same time, in India the policy environment and regulators need to accommodate technological interventions such as the growth of online pharmacies with the requisite controls in place, according to the experts.
