Diploma in IT & Data Science: What You Study and Which AI Jobs It Leads To

Can a diploma get you into AI? Partly. NTTF’s Diploma in Information Technology & Data Science is a 3-year IT diploma with one dedicated AI course in Year 2. It prepares you for entry roles such as developer, software tester, database administrator and junior data analyst. On its own, it does not make you a machine learning engineer.

Here is who can join, what you study each year, where AI fits, and which jobs the subjects actually prepare you for.

The short answer

  • Length: 3 years, 6 semesters, with multiple entry and exit options.
  • AI content: one Artificial Intelligence course with a lab in Year 2, backed by Python, databases, Business Intelligence and R. Machine learning is not listed as a separate subject.
  • Good fit: you like coding and data, and you want a job-ready route into IT and analytics.
  • Weaker fit: your only goal is a machine learning engineer role and you cannot study further.

Who can join

RouteEligibilityAge limit
After 12thPassed 12th/PUC/HSC (Science or Commerce) with Maths or any computer-related subject, plus the NTTF entrance exam24
Lateral entryPassed 12th or ITI with Science and Maths, plus the entrance exam. Some students must first complete a bridge programme: 160 hours after 12th/PUC, 80 hours for ITI non-relevant trades25

The program page does not list entry after 10th. If you have only passed 10th, check with NTTF first, or look at the Computer Technology & IT Infrastructure diploma, which lists 10th pass with Maths. Fees are charged per semester, and the brochure has the amounts.

What you study, year by year

YearMain subjectsWhat it builds
1Maths I and II, English, Applied Science, Algorithms and Problem Solving, Python Programming, C Programming Lab, Data Structures with Python, Database Design and Development, SQL Server Lab, Computer Networks, Web Programming Lab, Software EngineeringProgramming basics, how data is stored and queried
2Artificial Intelligence (lab), Business Intelligence (lab), OOPs with C++, Java Programming, Oracle, Unix, Dynamic Websites, Software TestingBuilding and testing applications, reports and dashboards, your first AI course
3Full Stack Development, R Programming, Information System Analysis, Principles of Business Operations, English Technical Writing, Business IT Project, External Organisation/NTTF ProjectEnd-to-end applications and two larger projects

Training is 70% hands-on and 30% theory, on laptops, with online assessments and feedback. Year 3 ends with project work, including one with an external organisation or NTTF.

Where AI fits, and where it does not

AI appears in Year 2 as a full course with a lab. Around it sit Python, data structures, SQL Server and Oracle databases, Business Intelligence in Year 2 and R in Year 3. That is the programming and data base that AI work stands on.

The program page does not list a separate machine learning subject, a cloud platform course, or named tools such as Power BI. So treat the AI course as your introduction, not your finish line.

If a machine learning engineer or data scientist role is your goal, plan for two things. Build machine learning skills on your own through projects while you study. And consider a degree later: NTTF describes a “10 + 3 + 3” route from diploma to B.Tech, with a B.Tech offered in collaboration with Alliance University. NTTF does not publish the eligibility details, so ask the centre.

Jobs the subjects prepare you for

NTTF’s program page lists eight roles. This table matches each to the subjects behind it.

NTTF does not publish a starting salary for this diploma. Ask the centre what recent batches were offered. For the data analyst route in detail, read Can I Become a Data Analyst After a Diploma?

IT & Data Science or Computer Technology?

Both are NTTF IT diplomas, and students often mix them up.

CP08 does not list an AI course. For how a computer diploma compares with a BCA, read Is a Diploma in Computer Technology Better Than a BCA?

What NTTF adds

NTTF has trained technical students since 1959. The program page states a 98%+ placement record and says the diploma is recognized by NCVET, MSDE and NOCN UK. Students also get industry exposure, explained in our post on industry visits. The placement figure is NTTF’s own, so ask for the list of companies and roles from the last batch.

Before you apply, ask the centre

  1. Does my qualification meet the entry rules, including the age limit?
  2. What is the total fee across all six semesters?
  3. Which companies hired the last batch, in which roles, and at what pay?

So, is it a good start for an AI career?

Yes, if you want a job within three years, you like coding and data, and you are willing to keep learning machine learning on your own or through a degree later. You will leave with Python, SQL, Java, a full-stack project and an AI course behind you.

It is a weaker choice if your only target is a machine learning engineer or data scientist role and you cannot study further. In that case, look at degree routes first.
